Verlano Alves

I have been behind a chair for a long time. Thirteen years in Brazil, fourteen here. In that time I have learned that the haircut is the easy part. The hard part is understanding what someone wants when they cannot quite put it into words, and then building it in a way that still works three months from now.

How I work

Why one client at a time

I take one client at a time, in a private studio, by reservation only. That is a deliberate choice, not a limitation. Color and smoothing are chemistry, and chemistry needs attention. You are not going to sit with foils in your hair while I run to another chair.

It also means the room is quiet. For a lot of people, the two hours in my chair are the only two hours of the week nobody needs anything from them. I try to keep it that way.

Where I came from

I trained and built my career in Brazil, where hair is taken seriously and where techniques like visagism and smoothing are part of the everyday craft, not a specialty course. I brought that here, and spent fourteen years learning what American hair, American water and American routines do to it.

That mix is the whole point. Brazilian technique, applied to the hair you actually have, in the climate you actually live in.

The method

I start from your face

Bring the photo. Bring three if you have them, they help me understand your taste. Then let me tell you what your hair will actually do with that shape, and we will land on something you can live with every morning, not just on the day you leave the chair.
